Monuloku - The Remix EP

MP3 Tip of the month in the new issue of "BEAT"

Their last EP "hibernation" is just back for a month, the two operators of Garganrecords Sven Seib and Monika Balogova are already back with a new Monuloku material. While the emphasis of "Hibernation" lay on minimal techno with reveling chill-out elements, now the electro-beats roll on this remix compilation. Above all, the Aurora-Borealis mix arouses a pleasant retro-feelings and sounds like "Anthony Rother" to his best times.

BreiPott
The Netaudio Cafe

It is the first netaudio-cafe and you can find this cafe in Berlin. Peoples hears in this bar only free music from the internert, usually sounds of netlabels. But that's not all: Because the music is shared freely and mostly under a Creative Commons license, it can also be taken away. A own USB flash drive ranges, because the BreiPott-musicstations are available for the music downloads. Also there are the full range of drinks and cocktails in the bar and tasty rice pudding creations. It would be nice if this Berlin Cafe / Bar concept is just the beginning, for more venues in this form.

Netaudio Festival Berlin 2009 – East meets West

From the 8th to the 11th of October 2009, Netaudio Berlin will be gathering the international netaudio community for a four-day music and conference festival in Berlin, under the title “East meets West”.
With over 100 participating artists spread over 3 nights, the netaudio festival gives a comprehensive insight into the various musical genres and brings netaudio music to life for participants and visitors. The day program includes numerous workshops and discussions with top experts as well as a film program, showcases, netaudio fair, and various contributions from other art forms.
The musical focus lies on a selection of Berlin’ finest electronic music, namely, House, Techno and Minimal. However, many artists from the fields of Ambient, Noise, Dub, Drum’n’Bass, Pop, Triphop, Dubstep, Breakbeats, Drone, Hip Hop and Techdub will add to the varied musical program.

Cologne Commons - Conference und Festival of free music

On 12 and 13 June 2009 in Cologne will be held the first "Cologne Commons - Conference and Festival of free music."

The Cologne Commons is a platform for free music, netlabels and artists. During the conference, workshops and discussions will taught knowledge for artists. On the concert part there will be presented young, dedicated and successful talents and musicians of Netlabels. During the Cologne Commons want to demonstrates targeted the possibilities and opportunities of the Web. In theory and practice demonstrates the Cologne Commons that the Internet is an extraordinary platform for young and unknown artists and demonstrates the advantages of the new medium.

The program on Friday and Saturday looks promising. The two-day conference and festival costs 25 euros. Individual tickets are per conference and evening program for the price of 8 euros.

Caramello - Jump Off (EP)

Garganrecords awakes from hibernation and goes with the full vigor to new projects.
The first one is the release [gargan033] with the Berlin multitalent Marc Vogler aka "Caramello".
His first release on a netlabel is entitled "Jump off" and contains 2 tracks, which can match to the genre tech-house. Both tracks are working with incredible intensity in the ears of listeners,
and build an arc of tension, that finds his musical climax. These tracks are not only for the club-techno-lovers.

...and offers their music for free in the net. However, in future we will offer advance our releases also in various portals for to pay. We want to cover expenses and we want to provide an incentive for artists. An increasing number of netlabels offer their tracks for to pay in portals like "Beatport" or "DJ-Shop". Also we get more inquiries from artists who asked, if we would offer their tracks on such portals.

Netaudio'08 Festival in London

Netaudio’08 will take place from 22nd to 25th October 2008 at Shunt Lounge, London SE1. It will celebrate the creative output of networked musicians and online communities with talks, workshops, showcases and performances.

Netaudio’08 will play host to a broad range of live musical acts from the IDM of Lackluster and the digital dub of Disrupt to the raucous sounds of emerging talent A.R.E. Weapons. There will also be live techno and house from Berlin and djs from across Europe and the UK playing everything from esoteric ambience to minimal techno and back via a headlining set from man of the moment: Appleblim. The only criteria here is that they sound good and that they engage via the medium of the Internet.

Interview with Garganrecords

The Japanese web-magazine "Music Forest", surveyed the leaders of our label. This interview will appear in a future issue. We publish an advance excerpt from this interview ...

Why did you start label ?

:"GARGANRECORDSD" was founded in the year 2004. The principal reason was to published the own produced music in the net. Later there came often inquiries of other artists.  2005 we decided to present also their music.

Why is the label called GARGANRECORDS? What's behind the name of the label ?

The first musical project of our founder "Sven Seib" had the name "GARGANTUA". GARGANTUA is a Fable-creature. From this name originated the idea to call our label "GARGANRECORDS".

What tune/genre has label released ?

We want to publish only electro-tunes in genres of Techno, Tech-house, Minimal-house,
Electronic, Downbeat, Ambient, Experimental.

What do you think the main difference between Net Label to Real Label ?

A netlabel, also called online label, web label or MP3 label, distributes music in digital audio formats (mainly MP3 or Ogg) online. The primary difference between netlabels and record labels is that netlabels emphasize free downloads, as opposed to physical publishing (CD, vinyl or DVD). Often, the music is released under licenses that encourage sharing, such as the Creative Commons Licenses.
Netlabels proposes to create a connection between all Netlabels, Netlabel Artists and Netlabel Lovers at myspace.com so to facilitate enjoying free downloadable music and to give every Netlabel a good visibility in the 'myspace jungle'.

What do you think of Radiohead's online album, his experiment, and result ?

We believe this is well worth what is in effect a huge turning point in the Music industry. This is history in the making and we think this is one of the most exciting things to happen to music in decades.
First off it takes balls to leave the comfort of a record label where you recording costs are recoupable but not returnable, it not means artist must put their money where their music is.
We think you will see far less crap music and far more music pushing the limits of creativity. Artists will no longer have to bow to record label ideas of what is creatively acceptable. They won't have to churn out the same album time and time again just because the first one was a hit.
New artists will have to spend less time trying to impress record labels in the hope of getting a deal and focus on perfecting their music. They can then release it online and compete with the likes of Radiohead. If their music stands out people will respond.

What do you think the music industry become in the future ?

Big record companies are no longer necessary. Artists can distribute their music themselves and get paid directly. An artist can even set up a kind of shareware distribution. Anyone can download their music free, but if you like it you can pay them. You can then get a higher quality version or other extras if you pay.

What is the most important thing about Net Label ?

It´s free music for free people, which loves this music. For artist there is a great platform to present his music and get a feedback for it.

What's the next step for you and label ?

Recently we offer masteringworks for more professional sound in the productions of our artists. In addition, we plan a monthly Podcast radioshow for netaudio. Otherwise we remain on our way to publish free electronic music.

Interesting Podcast on Radiostation "SWR2" for everything which don't know yet what is a netlabel: Netlabels as an alternative distribution channel for music? More and more promising musicians use the Internet to become known and offer their works also to free downloading. Also many so-called "netlabels" expel the music of her artists for free over the net - a model for the future? The broadcasting on SWR2 lights up the subject of all sides.

NETAUDIO FESTIVAL Berlin 2007

The Netaudio-festival, which took place from 5. to 8 October in Berlin, brought some Netlabel operators together. It prevailed common possitives thinking regarding the unlimited possibilities in the Netaudio range. Again helplessness in view of many garbage and the money lacking. The Community showed up at the same time combative opposite the all-powerful GEMA. But also the label operators don't have an alternative to the large "Representation-Tool-Offerers".

But don't stop it ... Netaudio will not die...
